1 Place £1.00 in a pot every day for 7 days 1. After 7 days you can put it towards your shopping.
2. You have the choice to continue to save checking the amount on the seventh day.
3. You can plan a trip with the amount in the pot and believe that you can have fun even walk to the place and have a soft drink – purchase the soft drink from the supermarket during your trip if possible.
4. You have the choice in putting the money into a saving account on the 7th day or setting aside a day in the following week.
5. You can give it to another person in need.
6. You can put the money towards a bill.
7. You can put it towards a form of literature through book or CD’s that will improve your knowledge and education. You will be further saving money as you can turn the TV ff and enjoy a new skill.
2 Plan your meals for the week 1. Look in the cupboards for the items you need to purchase first.
2. Stick to your list.
3. Do not impulse purchase.
4. Try to do your main shopping once a week in a supermarket if you have a family. I you are on your own it is better to go shopping 2-3 times per week. Keeping your food fresh and causing less waste.
5. Look for the special offers on the items on your list only.
6. Look for offers that you can purchase which are stated buy one get one free that are on our shopping list. Freeze the other if you can. Always follow the instruction on the packet.
7. If you are expecting a guest can you ask them to purchase an item you need.
3 Make a shopping list of things you require 1. Make a list on paper of how many people are eating in your home that week. Always expect the unexpected, add one more unnamed person to the list.
2. Plan your menu for each day – if you are unable to do this think of just one meal you can do.
3. Stick to your menu.
4. Get everyone involved in choosing what would be nice to eat throughout the week.
5. Eat at the table with everyone and have a discussion. Before you know it you may of learnt many things and if you have turned off the TV you would of saved electric.
6. Invite a guest – stick to your planned menu but don’t be afraid to ask them to bring an offering that could add to the table.
7. Remember to involve everyone in the cooking, preparing or even setting the table. This saves time, teaches new skills and above all patience.
